Description
Kangaroo Road Sign Coasters & Mug Rugs — Crochet Patterns (PDF download)
The most Australian warning sign of all, reborn as tapestry-crochet tableware. That yellow diamond rides fences and posts the length of every Aussie road trip — now he can hop onto your table, worked right into the fabric of four square coasters and two rectangular mug rugs, and keep his feet dry under every mug.
This is a full tapestry-crochet pattern set. The sign is worked INTO each piece in single crochet with all three yarns carried inside the stitches — never appliquéd or sewn on — so mugs sit level, the backs stay tidy with no floats, and the design shows through softly in reverse. Each piece is charted at its own scale from the real warning-sign silhouette: the coasters carry a 33 stitch × 36 row mini sign, the mug rugs a finer 48 × 52 chart centred on a wider ground — tail sweeping left to its fine point, one ear up, the little yellow eyelet at his chest exactly where the silhouette puts it.
Finished sizes: coasters about 16 cm square (make 4); mug rugs about 26 × 23 cm (make 2) — room for a mug and a small teapot. Every piece is finished with crocheted border rounds: a Warm Stone round on the coasters, Warm Stone then a framing Black round on the mug rugs.
What’s in the 10-page PDF:
• Full-page colour charts for BOTH pieces (coaster 33 × 36; mug rug 54 × 52 with the sign field outlined), numbered axes
• Every row of both charts also written out in full — chart and written rows are generated from the same chart data, so they can never disagree
• Yarn totals table up front, counted from the charts themselves: metres, yards, grams and 50 g balls per colour, per piece and for the whole set of six, carried yarn included
• Tapestry technique guide — carrying colours, clean colour changes, and reading the charts so the backs stay tidy
• Border rounds with exact stitch counts (146 / 220 / 228), blocking and care
You will need: DK (8 ply) cotton — Warm Stone 178 m (2 × 50 g balls), Sign Yellow 118 m (2 balls), Black 99 m (2 balls); 395 m and 6 balls in total for the full set of six. 3.5 mm crochet hook. Gauge: 22 stitches × 24 rows = 10 cm in single crochet. Yarn needle, scissors, pins for blocking.
Skill level: confident beginner and up. The stitches are the plainest in crochet; the only concentration is following the chart. Written in US terms throughout, with the UK/Australian translation given (every “sc” here is a UK/AU double crochet).
