Description
🦃 BRUSH-TURKEY AMIGURUMI VOL 2 — THE WHOLE TURKEY FAMILY, CROCHETED
A Thanksgiving turkey family with a difference — this one is Australian. We’re Al and Tina, an Aussie family shop, and this pack crochets the brush turkey and its whole family.
The brush turkey is Australia’s famous mound-builder. The tom spends months raking fallen leaves into a huge mound and tending it like a slow oven, checking the temperature with his beak. The hen lays her eggs in the mound and walks away, and the chicks hatch fully feathered, dig themselves out and are independent from their very first day — no sitting, no feeding, no flying lessons. This pack makes the family just as they are on the cover: two adult birds down on the ground in their foraging pose, three fluffy chicks, and a woven-look nest bowl to sit in front of them.
📋 WHAT’S INSIDE
- 🦃 THE TOM — the big male, approx 29 cm (11.4 in) long beak to tail: a plump horizontal Turkey Brown body (max 72 stitches, 35 rounds), upright neck, bright red head, grey beak and the long two-lobe yellow wattle he is known for — lobes approx 6 cm
- 🐦 THE HEN — a genuinely smaller, separate build, approx 24 cm (9.4 in) long: body max 60 stitches over 28 rounds, smaller head, shorter wattle lobes and a smaller, greyer beak. Not a colour swap — every part has its own round counts
- 🐣 THREE CHICKS — one pattern made three times, approx 9 cm (3.5 in) tall: light-brown bodies, tiny yellow beaks, little disc wings, and an embroidered red crown spot on two of the three, just as the cover shows. A gentle brush at the end gives them their fluffy finish
- 🪹 THE NEST BOWL — approx 24 cm (9.4 in) across, worked in chunky double crochet with the yarn held double for that woven, twiggy look. Empty, as a nest should be before the family moves in — and a very handy treats bowl on the Thanksgiving table
This is the companion to Brush-Turkey Amigurumi Vol 1 (the upright tom at his leaf-litter mound with the speckled eggs) — a completely different construction: horizontal bodies, swept-back tails, no fan tail and no eggs.
🧶 THE PATTERN
- 📖 Written round by round with every stitch count printed — each adult is 13 parts (body, neck, head, beak, 2 wattle lobes, 2 wings, tail, 2 legs, 2 feet), sewn together with full assembly instructions
- 🧮 Yarn totals UP FRONT — per piece and per colour, in metres, yards, grams and 50 g balls, counted stitch by stitch from the patterns themselves, sewing tails included
- 🗺️ Side-view and face-placement diagrams drawn from the same pattern data, plus an embroidered-eye and brow guide
- 📏 US terms with UK equivalents, gauge given (DK cotton, 4.0 mm hook for the birds; 6.0 mm for the nest, yarn held double)
- 👀 Embroidered eyes and brows ONLY — no safety eyes, no buttons, no beads, no plastic parts anywhere
Skill level: confident beginner to intermediate — single crochet, increases, decreases, one chain-ring start, simple oval starts, and patient sewing.
