Description
Five flat Aussie animals for people who read — four bookmarks and a book sleeve, all worked in tapestry single crochet from full colour charts, with every face embroidered in yarn. No safety eyes, no buttons, nothing lumpy: just crisp cotton colourwork that slides between pages and stays put.
WHAT’S INSIDE
• Koala Bookmark — a wide grey head with big disc ears and a pale muzzle, over a long strip carrying a winding gum-leaf vine in two greens (approx 20 cm long overall)
• Platypus Bookmark — a tan strip with a woven-look teal and brown checker band, a teal face panel and a flat blue bill sewn on low (approx 18 cm)
• Kookaburra Bookmark — one shaped silhouette in profile: cream chest, brown wing barred with blue, barred tail, and a long dark beak worked separately and sewn on (approx 16.7 cm)
• Wombat Bookmark — the little one: tan head with a sand muzzle, a short strip with charted paws and a gum-leaf sprig at its foot (approx 12 cm)
• Book Sleeve — two cream panels scattered with paw prints (brown and blue), gum-leaf sprigs and gumnuts, sewn into a sleeve that fits a standard paperback up to approx 12.5 x 20 cm
EVERY ROW, EVERY CHART
Each piece comes with BOTH a full colour chart and the complete written rows in US terms (with UK equivalents) — every row written out with its colour runs and stitch counts, generated from the chart itself, so the words and the picture can never disagree. A yarn totals table sits right up front: metres, grams and 50 g balls per piece and per colour. The whole pack uses approx 107 m of DK cotton in total, and every colour fits inside a single 50 g ball — a brilliant stash-buster.
TECHNIQUE NOTES INCLUDED
Tapestry crochet basics (carrying yarn invisibly inside your stitches, changing colour cleanly), how to read the charts row by row, blocking flat pieces so they lie properly flat in a book, sewing the flat extras (ears, bill, beak), and embroidery guides for every face.
YOU WILL NEED
DK (8 ply) cotton in 16 small-amount colours (full table in the pattern), a 3.5 mm hook (worked a size down for crisp colourwork), yarn needle, scissors. Gauge: 22 sc x 24 rows = 10 cm. Skill level: confident beginner and up — if you can single crochet and change colour, you can make every piece in this pack.
