Description
Three Aussie characters for the teapot: a sleepy grey koala whose face fills the front, a mother kangaroo with a real pouch pocket and a tiny joey peeking out, and a cream kookaburra with a long pointed beak and a bright blue speckled wing. Every cozy comes in two sizes — Small for the classic 2-cup pot and Large for 4–6-cup pots — and all three share one clever body pattern (the same body system as our Aussie Flora tea cozies), so once you have made one you have made them all. From our Aussie family shop, they keep the tea hot and the table smiling.
REAL OPENINGS, HONESTLY DESCRIBED: these are not tubes with the spout forced under the hem. Each body begins as two flat panels, and the gap left between the panels at each side is a real vertical slit (about 3.8 cm wide, 5.0 cm tall in Small and 6.7 cm in Large). The spout slips through one slit and the handle through the other, the panels are bridged into one piece above the slits, and two little crocheted ties at each slit tie closed in a bow under the spout and the handle. At the top the dome closes to a small ring (about 2.4 cm across) that your teapot’s lid knob pops through, with a crocheted loop handle behind it for lifting the cozy off.
THE FACES, HONESTLY DESCRIBED: every part of every face is crocheted as a separate piece and stitched onto the finished body with a yarn needle — the face panels, the koala’s fluffy ears and big nose, the kangaroo’s ears, muzzle, pouch and joey, the kookaburra’s eye-stripe, beak and wing. That is how these faces are truly made, and the pattern says exactly that, with counted stitches for every disc, ear, taper and row, and plain instructions for where each piece is sewn. The eyes are embroidered — no plastic eyes, no buttons, and nothing is glued, anywhere. The joey is stitched into the pouch: he lives there, he doesn’t pop out.
WHAT’S INSIDE THE 18-PAGE PDF
• The shared body pattern in both sizes — two ribbed panels (half double crochet through the back loop, a thick insulating stitch) with an accent hem band, joined into the round over chain bridges, then domed with counted decrease rounds to the knob ring: 72 stitches around and 13.3 cm tall (Small), 96 stitches around and 17.5 cm tall (Large), every round written out with its count
• The Koala: a 330-stitch round face panel (about 10 cm across), two fluffy loop-stitch ears with cream inner ears, a big charcoal oval nose (54 stitches, worked in rounds around a chain), and embroidered sleepy eyes with lashes
• The Kangaroo: a 270-stitch face panel, cream muzzle, two tall ears from a width model (with a chart drawn from the same model), a real pouch pocket (235 stitches of counted rows), and the joey — a 150-stitch head and neck with tiny ears, stitched into the pouch
• The Kookaburra: a 270-stitch head panel, a charcoal eye-stripe from a width model (with chart), a long tapered beak in two sewn halves (176 stitches, about 5.5 cm long), and a blue wing oval with cream and charcoal surface-stitch speckles
• A yarn totals table up front — every cozy, every size, every colour costed in metres, yards, grams and 50 g balls, counted stitch by stitch (5,402 stitches and 161 m for a full Small set; 7,526 stitches and 236 m for Large; one ball of each of the seven colours makes a full set in one size)
• Measuring-your-teapot guide, finishing and washing notes, and an honestly-labelled optional fabric lining (a simple extra you cut and tack in yourself — the cozy is complete and warm without it)
