Every Aussie knows to look up before walking under a gum tree. The drop bear — the koala’s fanged, drop-from-above cousin — is our favourite national tall tale, and now he has his very own warning sign. This tapestry-crochet wall hanging puts him right where he belongs: inside the yellow diamond of an Aussie road sign, hanging head-first from a gum branch, ears pointed, claws out, fangs bared. Hang him in the hallway and warn your guests properly.
The bear is worked stitch by stitch from a full colour chart, and every one of the 92 rows is ALSO written out in full, so you can follow whichever you prefer. The gum branch with its little green leaves crosses the top inside corner of the diamond, exactly as shown.
✋ HONEST DETAILS
• This is true tapestry crochet: every colour change is worked INTO the single-crochet fabric and the yarns are carried inside the stitches, so the sign is one flat piece — never a raised or applied panel — and the back stays tidy with no floats.
• The dowel is NOT included. The pattern includes a crocheted sleeve stitched across the back of the top edge; you supply a dowel, garden stake or straight gum branch of about 55–60 cm.
• The fringe is part of the pattern: 47 tassels in Warm Stone, Sign Yellow and Black, counted and placed for you.
📏 FINISHED SIZE
About 50 × 49 cm including the border, plus about 12 cm of fringe. The panel itself is 88 stitches × 92 rows at a gauge of 19 sts × 20 rows = 10 cm.

DK (8 ply) cotton: Warm Stone about 275 m (3 × 50 g balls), Sign Yellow about 77 m, Black about 76 m, and small amounts of Bark Brown, Gum Leaf Green and Fang White (full stitch-counted yarn table inside the pattern). Plus a 4.0 mm hook, yarn needle, scissors, stitch markers and blocking gear.
