Description
🦘 AUSSIE FAUNA FILET DOILIES — CROCHET PATTERNS 🦘
Kangaroo · Koala · Kookaburra
Three filet-crochet doilies that put the Australian bush on the table — each animal drawn square by square in filled and open mesh, and worked in timeless white or cream size 10 cotton with a 1.50 mm steel hook. This is heirloom Aussie lace for real tables: under the vase, under the teapot, or watching over the sideboard.
Each doily is a charted filet panel with its own character — not one picture in three sizes:
🦘 KANGAROO DOILY — about 31 x 28 cm, 48 meshes x 42 rows
A kangaroo caught mid-leap: long ear, little forepaw tucked under the chest, the big hind leg stretched into its long foot, and the tail sweeping down behind.
🐨 KOALA DOILY — about 29 x 26 cm, 44 meshes x 40 rows
The koala front-on: two big round ears and a round solid head, with the tall oval nose and the eyes left as open mesh — holes in the lace, the way the old filet portraits were drawn — over a round sitting body.
🪶 KOOKABURRA DOILY — about 31 x 29 cm, 48 meshes x 44 rows
A kookaburra on his branch in profile: the dark eye band drawn as a line of open mesh, the famous long straight beak, a plump body with one curved wing line, and the long tail angling down past the branch.
WHAT YOU GET
✔ Instant-download PDF, 21 pages
✔ A full-page chart for each doily, numbered every 5 meshes and 5 rows
✔ The same charts written out row by row as mesh counts — every row with its turning chain and its check figures (total dc and ch-2 spaces), so you never count a chart square twice
✔ A filet technique section: 4-dc mesh (used consistently throughout), open vs filled mesh, turning chains, reading charts and keeping your count
✔ Thread totals table UP FRONT: two 50 g balls of size 10 cotton (about 310 m in total) make the whole set, with per-doily metres, yards, grams and filled/open mesh counts
✔ A three-round picot edging worked around each panel
✔ Blocking and stiffening instructions with exact finished measurements, plus care notes
✔ US crochet terms with UK equivalents
SKILL LEVEL: Confident intermediate — you should be comfortable with double crochet and chains and working in rows. Filet itself is only two kinds of mesh; the pattern does the counting for you.
YOU’LL NEED: Size 10 crochet cotton (white or cream), 1.50 mm steel crochet hook, yarn needle, pins and a blocking surface. Fabric stiffener is optional.
A note on the pictures: in filet crochet the animal is the solid part — filled squares against open mesh — so these doilies read best on a dark table, exactly as photographed.
