🎃🍂 THANKSGIVING PUMPKIN COLLECTION CROCHET PATTERNS VOL 1 🍂🎃
A whole pumpkin patch for the Thanksgiving table: four smooth, deeply grooved crochet pumpkins in four sizes — a big Orange for the centre, Rust and Cream Mediums to flank it, and a little Sage Green one to tuck in front — every one wearing a ribbed stalk, two curly tendrils and a flat veined leaf, plus three two-tone acorns to scatter among them. Thanksgiving isn’t a traditional Australian holiday, but a feast that gathers everyone around a table is one worth adopting — and down here autumn comes in April, so our Aussie family gets to enjoy the pumpkin season twice a year. This is our patch, worked in honest cotton and made to come out of the cupboard every autumn for years.
HOW THESE ARE MADE — honestly: each pumpkin body is a smooth sphere of plain single crochet worked through both loops — an increase ladder up, plain rounds, then the mirror-image decrease ladder down. There is no ribbing in the fabric at all. The deep grooves are pressed in afterwards with long strands of the body yarn wrapped firmly from top centre to bottom centre, three passes to a line, eight lines to a pumpkin, until the lobes puff between them. The stalks are the one ribbed piece in the pack (back-loop rounds), the tendrils are chains crowded with stitches so they spring into curls, and the leaves are flat rows with a slip-stitched vein.
🎃 DESIGN 1 — CLASSIC GROOVED PUMPKINS (SET OF 4)
Large Orange about 18 cm across, Medium Rust about 15 cm, Medium Cream about 13 cm, Small Sage Green about 11 cm. One construction, four sizes — and every size is written out in full, round by round, with its own counts: the Large is 44 rounds to a maximum of 108 stitches, the Small 25 rounds to 66. A scale size chart and a top-view groove map are drawn from the same numbers as the patterns, so what you see is exactly what you count.
🌿 THE TRIM SET (ONE PER PUMPKIN)
A ribbed Sage Green stalk, two curly tendrils and a veined leaf for every pumpkin — all patterned in full. The leaf’s rows widen and narrow in perfect mirror image, and its little slip-stitch edge bumps give it that pointed, scalloped edge in the photos.
🌰 DESIGN 2 — ACORNS (SET OF 3)
Smooth Tan nuts under domed Bark Brown caps with a folded rim and a tiny stalk, about 5 cm tall. Two small pieces each, about twenty minutes an acorn — scatter the three through the patch, or keep going and fill a bowl.
🧮 EVERY STITCH COUNTED
Every count in this pack has been computer-checked before printing: each body from its own ladder model, the trim from its token model, the acorns from their round models. The yarn table sits right up front — per piece and per colour, in metres, yards, grams and 50 g balls. The whole patch takes about 288 m of DK cotton: one 50 g ball of each of the six colours (Orange, Rust, Cream, Sage Green, Tan, Bark Brown) makes the complete set as photographed.
📏 GAUGE & SIZES: 19 sc × 20 rows = 10 cm in DK (8 ply) cotton with a 4.0 mm hook. US terms throughout, with UK equivalents in the table up front.
✂️ SKILL LEVEL: confident beginner and up. If you can work single crochet in the round, increase and decrease (sc2tog), you can make every piece — the grooving is explained pass by pass, and the trim techniques (back-loop ribbing, tendril curls, surface slip-stitch veins) are all covered in the pattern.
