Twelve dog toys worked firmly in durable cotton worsted with a 4.0 mm hook, from our Aussie family shop: a braided rope tug in red, cream and navy, a squeaky bone and a squeaky snag with bought squeakers fully enclosed, a rope-edge fetch ball, two rings (one for tug, one for the chase), a soft fetch disc, a knot ball, a squeaky gum nut straight off an Australian gum tree, a plush stick with gum leaves, a tug bone and a crinkle plush bottle. Australia is dog country — every backyard from Lennox Head to Fremantle has a critic waiting — and these toys are built for supervised games with tight stitches and doubled-yarn seams throughout.
This collection includes 12 original patterns: Braided Rope Tug, Squeaky Bone, Rope-Edge Ball, Tug Ring, Squeaky Sausage, Soft Fetch Disc, Knot Ball, Squeaky Gum Nut, Plush Stick, Tug Bone, Fetch Ring and Crinkle Plush Bottle.
Each of the 12 patterns includes:

Safety is built into this book, not bolted on: the Getting Started section covers supervised play only, bought inserts (squeakers and crinkle film, stated in their patterns) fully enclosed with doubled-yarn seams, why no crochet toy suits an unsupervised power-chewer, and inspecting and retiring worn toys. Match the toy to your dog — Aussie terriers to big soft-mouthed retrievers — and make a fresh favourite in an evening or two.
Skill level: Confident beginner. Durable cotton or cotton-blend worsted yarn, 4.0 mm (US G-6) hook, worked firmly. Toys from about 8 cm (gum nut) to about 40 cm (braided tug).
