THE RATTLE NOTE, PLAINLY: crochet cannot make a sound on its own. Each rattle in this book sounds ONLY if you add ONE sealed plastic rattle insert or sealed jingle bell (a bought toy-making component) into the head stuffing, exactly where the pattern tells you — or leave it out and the rattle works as a silent squeeze toy. Sealed inserts only, fully enclosed; the patterns repeat this at the exact step, and the materials list says the same.
