Every costume is built INTO the knitting — bands, bobbles, charts and stitches — so there is nothing dangling, nothing sewn on that can be chewed off, and a keepsake garment that comes out every December. A joyful DIY holiday activity from the first cast-on to the family photograph, hand-knitted by you for the smallest member of the family.
This collection includes 12 original patterns: Santa Suit Jumper, Elf Jumper, Reindeer Jumper, Snowman Jumper, Christmas Tree Jumper, Gingerbread Jumper, Christmas Pudding Jumper, Angel Jumper, Toy Soldier Jumper, Mrs Claus Jumper, Beach Santa Jumper, and Party Popper Jumper.
Every pattern includes:
• Its own dedicated solo photo page — twelve different photos for twelve different costumes
• Pattern-at-a-glance box with all five sizes, yarn and needles
• Full round-by-round and row-by-row instructions with stitch counts on every round and row
• ONE sized body ladder used by all twelve costumes — hem rib, lower body, flat leg-opening panels (back panel and chest panel worked flat, then rejoined), upper body and neck finish — then the costume is worked into that ladder: colour-work bands (Santa's black belt band, the pudding's cream custard yoke with drips, the soldier's black and gold bands, Beach Santa's board-short-blue band, the popper's gold neck band), knitted bobble rows (the snowman's charcoal bobble buttons and the tree's bright bobble baubles — bobbles worked into the fabric, never sewn-on buttons), and knitted details with stated counts (the elf's pointed collar points worked flat, 10 stitches decreasing to 1, and sewn flat around the neck; the angel's wings worked flat, 14 stitches decreasing to 8, and sewn flat against the back)
• A costume chart in every pattern — the colour and placement map for its belt buckle, stripes, antlers, bobbles, icing, custard, halo, cross-strap, apron, wreath or confetti flecks
• Details a real costume would sew on are STITCHES here instead: the reindeer's antlers are embroidered flat, the gingerbread icing, the soldier's cream cross-strap, the holly, the gum-leaf wreath and the stars are duplicate stitch or embroidery, and the party confetti is stranded flecks with short caught floats — the pattern says so wherever it matters
• FIVE sizes by chest measurement: XS about 25 cm (CO 56 sts), S about 35 cm (CO 76 sts), M about 45 cm (CO 100 sts), L about 60 cm (CO 132 sts), XL about 75 cm (CO 164 sts) — every count change per size is stated in every pattern, and back lengths run about 20 / 28 / 35 / 45 / 52 cm
• A Measure Your Pet guide in the getting-started pages: measure the chest behind the front legs, choose the size by that measurement, and check for snug-not-tight two-finger ease — dogs and cats wear the same five sizes, and the chest measurement decides
• A fit line and a safety line in every pattern: supervise wear at all times, comfortable fit with no rubbing, no dangling parts, and remove the jumper at once if your pet chews it, catches it on anything, or seems uncomfortable or too warm — plus the angel's wing line (wings sewn flat, never dangling) in its own pattern
• DK yarn on 3.25–4 mm needles throughout
This is Christmas in Australia, dressed up properly: a Santa who wears board shorts over his suit, a gum-leaf wreath at his chest, and a whole cast of Aussie Christmas characters for the family photo — Santa suits, elf stripes and a Beach Santa for the Aussie summer, whether you are celebrating Christmas in Australia or carrying a little Aussie Christmas with you anywhere in the world. Knit the Santa Suit for the dog, the Angel for the cat, and the Beach Santa for whoever gets the sunny spot on the veranda — then line them all up under the tree.
Skill level: Confident beginner. If you can knit in the round, work flat stockinette panels, change colour for a band and follow a small colour chart, you can knit every costume in this book.
